The 202 on Washington Project is one step closer to becoming a reality. Closing on the building sale took place on Friday, April 17th.

"We are excited to see the community moving forward with the Cheyenne Center for Creativity's (CC4C) purchase of the historic building at 202 Washington", said Tom Smull, board member of the Cheyenne County Kansas Community Foundation. The Foundation's Dane G. Hansen Pass-Through Grant of $10,000 will help start the work. This building is the former Danielson Hardware and Faulkender Store located on St. Francis’s main street.

In February CC4C was granted a Dane G. Hansen Grant to Purchase of $100,000. This grant is contingent on raising an additional $250,000 toward renovation of the building.

"The 202 on Washington Project is about three things: creating a community event center with adjacent commercial kitchen to meet local needs, building a home for the arts and culture in Northwest Kansas, and preserving a piece of architectural history for our community" according to CC4C board members and the 202 Project teams. "It is a facility that will serve all ages. Services at this location will help to stimulate minds and encourage creativity, as well as help bolster our local economy. The irony of seeking assistance for a community meeting space during this time of social distancing is not lost on us; however, we believe that our future will once again see us gathering together, and we want to be ready to facilitate our renewed social interactions."
